AETDEW President Dato Lee Yee Cheong Third Visit to China 2023

AETDEW President Dato Lee Yee Cheong made his third visit to China 24-29 September 2023 to speak at the Museum Forum of the 9th Nishan Forum on World Civilizations in Qufu Shandong at the invitation of the Chinese People’s Association for Exchange with Foreign Countries.. In his speech, he promoted the AEDEW project “Virtual Belt and Road Civilization Museum”. It was very positively received by the audience that consisted primarily of directors and curators of Chinese museums.

A most pleasant surprise was the meeting with AETDEW Foreign Fellows Professor Jeffrey Sachs and Dr. Sonia Sachs. Professor Sachs is the Advisor of UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres on the UN SDGs. He is an ardent promotion of the fusion of ancient civilizations as the way forward for world peace and sustainability. He was the only international keynote speaker at the Opening of the 9th Nishan Forum on World Civilizations on 27 September 2023. In his speech, he touched on his ABC, Aristotle, Buddha, Confucius as the three virtuous philosophers whose teachings on peace and harmony can be the basis for the current world.

Dato Lee Yee Cheong was invited to the Confucius Birthday Commemoration Ceremony in Qufu on 28 September 2023.

AETDEW Fellow Professor Qi Yuansheng, President China Academy of Printing and Packaging came from Beijing to Qufu to meet Dato Lee Yee Cheong to discuss the formation of a working group of Chinese AETDEW Fellows to compile the first list of Chinese engineering university text and reference books for translation into English for the use of engineering faculties in Belt and Road countries.

AETDEW Fellow Xie Ou came to Qufu to meet up with AETDEW Fellow Professor Ewe Hong Tat to explore further the possibility of UTAR being the ASEAN Hub for the proposed Alliance of Chinese enterprises and universities to collaborate with their ASEAN counterparts to promote engineering and technological human resource training and development under BRI. Dato Lee Yee Cheong visited AETDEW Fellow Ma Lixin in his Office in Jinan on 25 September 2023 and was very impressed by his work in the promotion of robotics and autonomation in China and the arrangement of exchange visits between universities in Shandong and their counterparts in Germany and Scandinavia. On his departure from Qufu home, Dato Lee Yee Cheong had a breakfast meeting with AETDEW Fellow Professor Chen Haoyong of the South China University of

Technology (SCUT), Guangzhou and the Deputy Director International Department of his University Dr Huang Fei about collaboration with Malaysian and ASEAN universities in the electric power sector. Dato Lee Yee Cheong was very pleased to learn SCUT has ongoing cooperation with University Malaya, University Putra and Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Technology in Malaysia as well as universities in Thailand and Myanmar.
